CALL OUR SENATORS!
If you don't get through, try a local office, and/or try again later. (That's a good sign and means we are keeping them busy)
If you've tried a few times and can't get through, you can always leave a message.
Today's script:
Hello! I am a constituent of Senator _____ and live in ______, AL. I am calling to urge Senator _____ to oppose two of Trump’s extreme cabinet nominees. First, I ask that Sen. _____ block the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr as secretary of Health and Human Services, This is not just about COVID. It is about so much more, including whooping cough (pertussis) in newborn babies, the risk of a measles outbreak and a possible return of polio. It’s about risking the eradication of small pox. Please oppose the anti-science policies and appointment of RKJ Jr!
I would also implore her/him to insist that any hearings regarding the appointment of Russell Vought as Trump’s nominee for Director of the Office of Management and Budget be held until the freeze of NIH funding is reversed - AND to oppose his appointment when hearings resume. Holding government institutions hostage to White House policies is unconstitutional. Withholding NIH funding places UAB, Alabama’s largest employer in the crosshairs and threatens Alabama’s economic wellbeing. Oppose Russell Vought!

A Facebook post
The trick will be to communicate all of Trump’s screw ups to Republicans. This should be a top priority of Democrats. There’s got to be ways to pressure media outlets, including radio, and social media to report Trump’s failures to Republicans.

I think I am making good, strenuous efforts to try to pressure media outlets and others with greater standing than myself to publicly press the case against Trump. https://trumptweet.blogspot.com/.../the-power-crazed...

Thank you very much for replying, Dr. Turner-Henson.
You may have more to say about the link I sent you, which would be great.
Regardless of anything further on the link, I would like to ask this regarding Senator Britt and the RFK Jr. nomination: Do you think there is anyone in Alabama opposed to RFK Jr. who has had an opportunity to meet face to face with Senator Britt and make a case why Senator Britt should vote against RFK Jr.?
Face to face with Senator Britt on various issues (not necessarily me face to face but someone who is opposite from Sen. Britt on the particular issue) is an objective I have. Maybe impossible, but that's what I would like.
Sincerely,

Subject: A follow up note
Good morning, Anne.
I am adamant in trying to push into the face of Alabama lawmakers.
I don't think I can do that by direct communication to the lawmakers, and I think I can possibly do it by trying to push on other Alabamians who have more standing to get in the face of the Alabama lawmakers.
The best example of this currently, which I am still working on, is regarding Senator Britt, per The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: Sen. Katie Britt versus Prof. Joyce Vance and The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: The power-crazed January 6th lawbreaker President, day 10.
It would be great to get others to work with me on this. I don't have anyone yet, but I am keeping on trying.
An element of my methodology is to identify in my blogs parties and parties' email addresses whom I contact. I am sensitive to not posting other parties' emails without their permission, unless I think that the other party would almost certainly not object and, if at some point, there should be an objection, I would remove the other party's email.
For your information, I have posted at the two emails you have sent me at The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: The power-crazed January 6th lawbreaker President, day 11 and at The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: The power-crazed January 6th lawbreaker President, day 9, but without showing your email address. If you wish for either or both of the emails not to be shown, let me know and I will remove them. If you would like your email to me to be shown, just let me know and I will do that.
Thank you so much, Anne, for engaging with me here.

Thank you again, Anne.
I just finished watching Senator Britt questioning Kash Patel in today's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. She spouted the Trump line about weaponization of the Department of Justice against Trump.
I will continue plugging away in my effort to get Senator Britt to engage in public debate about weaponization of the Department of Justice with Joyce Vance (or with some other appropriate and willing Alabamian).

Dear Mr. Mancer,
I am availing of the interview of you that CBS42 had and that I saw on CBS42's early morning news last Sunday.
I think the interview was about local business prospects in 2025.
I am focused on the understanding that average Alabamians have about the economy and inflation.
In the election I, who have no position or standing, tried hard to get such understanding elevated, as set out at Be An Alabama Rootstriker* with Rob Shattuck: It's the economy and inflation, stupid. In doing this, I tried to importune TV stations, economics professors and chambers of commerce, including The Shelby County Chamber, to help in the endeavor.
I think, in the election, the understanding that average Alabamians had about the economy and inflation was unsatisfactory for purposes of their making their Presidential voting decisions in the 2024 election.
In the coming months, such understanding may get better as average Alabamians observe developments in the economy and particularly regarding the much higher prices and costs that were the top issue (along with immigration) in the 2024 election.
I will continue to push for Alabamians to gain better understanding about the economy and inflation, such as by sending this email and further emails.
Thank you for your indulgence in this email.
Sincerely,
Rob Shattuck

To Alabama lawyers:
University of Alabama alumnae Kieghan Nangle's has been named executive assistant to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, and I availed of such development to send the below email to University of Alabama professors and others.
In the email I ask the addressees to evaluate my calling President Donald J. Trump "a power-crazed January 6th lawbreaker", and, in doing so, I ask for them to consider my communications to Alabama lawyers, such as shown in The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: Sen. Katie Britt versus Prof. Joyce Vance,
Focusing on whether President Donald J. Trump is a January 6th lawbreaker, I cite the following from Jack Smith's report:
“The Department’s view that the Constitution prohibits the continued indictment and prosecution of a President is categorical and does not turn on the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the Government’s proof, or the merits of the prosecution, which the Office stands fully behind,” the report states. “Indeed, but for Mr. Trump’s election and imminent return to the Presidency, the Office assessed that the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial.” Read the full special counsel report on Trump’s Jan. 6 actions | PBS News.
In connection with what my below email says, my question to Alabama lawyers is this: Is there any Alabama lawyer who will publicly express disagreement with the DOJ's assessment that "the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial."?
If there is such a public expression of disagreement, I would like to be made aware of it, and I will take it into account in my ongoing communicating on this subject.
Thank you.

Dear Dr. Turner-Henson:
This email is prompted by the sharing you did on Sunday of information about the NIH situation, how losing research funding could impact UAB and the entire state of Alabama, and the desire for actions to bring awareness to the public of such issue that will affect everyone in the state and country.
I am sure you are also alarmed by other threats to the health of Americans that are presented by the power-crazed President of the United States Donald J. Trump, such as his nomination of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. for HHS Secretary and his firehose of executive orders.
I am trying to find a way to bring public pressure to bear on our Alabama lawmakers.
If you would, please read Be An Alabama Rootstriker* with Rob Shattuck: Letter to AL State Public Health Committee and tell whether you think the emailing I did had any effect on anyone or whether I wasted my time in what I did.
I am asking this because I am doing similar emailing currently in other areas and want other people to join with me in doing emailing, and for this there needs to be a belief that such emailing is doing or can do some good.
Thank you for whatever impression you are willing to convey to me about what I am doing.

The January 6th lawbreaker President, day 8

Notes of day 8 of the presidency of the power-crazed, January 6th lawbreaker 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.

Facebook commenting re Bishop Budde
On Facebook, I am putting on Facebook posts about Bishop Budde a comment saying,
"A year ago I took it upon myself to email Alabama churches about Christian nationalism as set out at Be An Alabama Rootstriker* with Rob Shattuck: Alabama evangelicals and "The Kingdom, the Power and the Glory". Do you think anything could be gained by emailing them at this time about Bishop Budde?"

Also on Facebook regarding emailing
I have been posting comments saying:
I am emailing Alabama parties about the power crazed, January 6th lawbreaker 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, who is hard at work swinging his wrecking ball at America, as suits his power gratification whims and needs of the moment. I am urging such Alabama parties to join in the growing Trump resistance. https://trumptweet.blogspot.com/2025/01/the-january-6th-lawbreaker-president_24.html
Someone who saw this comment commented back to me: "who are you emailing? Are you sure anybody will listen to you?"
My response is first that I am emailing Alabama lawyers, TV stations, chambers of commerce, Republican and Democratic party organizations, parties in the health care field, and academics. These emails are posted throughout my blogs. Next, I believe that my emails are read by many recipients and register with them in their thinking about the subject matter. I seek others to join with me in sending emails in a coordinated way, and, if others joined in, I think that would increase effectiveness. I have posted such response in a comment back to the person who asked the above questions.

Dear University of Alabama professors and others:
Kieghan Nangle, an alumnae of the University of Alabama "with a deep background in media and political affairs," has been named executive assistant to White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt. UA alum named executive assistant to White House Press Secretary - Yellowhammer News
Via social media and emailing in Alabama, I am calling President Donald J. Trump a power-crazed January 6th lawbreaker. The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: The January 6th lawbreaker President, day 7
I wish for this to reach Kieghan Nangle's ears.
In wishing for that, I want it to be defensible to be calling President Donald J. Trump a power-crazed January 6th lawbreaker and also to gauge the appreciation that Kieghan Nangle would have if she hears what I am calling President Donald J. Trump.
Sending this email to University of Alabama professors and others in the fields of law, journalism, communications, political science, government and history is to solicit views about what I am calling President Donald J. Trump and about what the professors think a former University of Alabama student such as Kieghan Nangle, to the extent she took journalism, communications, political science and government courses, would have been taught to be able to think seriously about what I am calling President Donald J. Trump.
In evaluating my calling President Donald J. Trump a January 6th lawbreaker, please consider my communications to Alabama lawyers, such as shown in The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: Sen. Katie Britt versus Prof. Joyce Vance, that have received no response. On "power-crazed", please consider what I say at The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: Second letter to Katie Britt re Trump and power and at The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: January 6, 2025.
Thank you very much.

I think Alabama local television viewers are in need of more explaining to them by knowledgeable fellow Alabamians (such as Professor Gross) about what the abnormal firehose of shock and awe emanating from the second Trump administration portends for America and for their own lives.
I hope this email contributes to prompting same.

The January 6th lawbreaker President, day 6

Notes of day 6 of the presidency of the January 6th lawbreaker 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.

Rep. Terri Sewell
An action item for Alabama Trump resisters is to go to Rep. Terri Sewell's email asking, "Do you agree with President Trump pardoning those convicted of crimes on January 6th, including those who assaulted police officers?" and clicking "NO" you do not agree. Rep. Sewell's email can be found at The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: Rep. Terri ewell asking about Jan. 6th pardons. (Note: On Facebook I am putting links to this blog entry https://trumptweet.blogspot.com/2025/01/the-january-6th-lawbreaker-president_65.html because Facebook would not allow links to The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: Rep. Terri ewell asking about Jan. 6th pardons.)

Forwarding Rep. Terri Sewell's email:
If you would like me to email to you Rep. Sewell's email so you can forward it to your friends and/or others, please email me (rdshatt@aol.com) your email address and I will send Rep. Sewell's email to you.
I have sent Rep. Sewell's email to my Alabama lawyer email list and to the Alabama State Bar Bench & Bar Relations Committee. Emails are posted at The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: Rep. Terri Sewell email asking about Jan. 6th pardons. Also I have sent Rep. Sewell's email to my friends list.

Kyle Whitmire on Facebook today
Recently, I reread Anne Applebaum’s 2020 Atlantic piece, “History Will Judge the Complicit,” which holds up even better today than when she wrote it. In the article, Applebaum explores why and how people with a smidgen of power will set aside their beliefs and principles for the sake of self-preservation.
You know, Lindsey Graham.
What struck me was a section in which she compares Trump’s lies about his 2016 inaugural crowd with a Soviet propaganda campaign to blame the U.S. for a potato famine.
“No one really believed the charge, including the people making it, as archives have subsequently shown,” she writes. “But that didn’t matter. The point of the posters was not to convince people of a falsehood. The point was to demonstrate the party’s power to proclaim and promulgate a falsehood. Sometimes the point isn’t to make people believe a lie—it’s to make people fear the liar.”
Something like that is happening again but about a different crowd.
When officials such as Tommy Tuberville argue that police weren’t viciously attacked on January 6, they aren’t trying to persuade us. They are trying to put us in our place. They are telling us the truth doesn’t matter anymore and we should just accept that.
Nice try, Waterboy, but no thank you.

Do you agree with President Trump pardoning those convicted of crimes on January 6th, including those who assaulted police officers?

ImageImage

Dear Rob,

On his first day in office, President Trump pardoned or commuted the sentences of over 1,500 people convicted of crimes related to the insurrection on January 6, 2021.

Of those people, about 600 were charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding law enforcement officers, with almost 175 accused of doing so with deadly or dangerous weapons such as baseball bats, two-by-fours, crutches, hockey sticks, and broken wooden table legs.

Among those violent criminals who have been released into communities in America are:

Steven Cappuccio, a felon who violently beat a police officer stuck in a door.

Image

DJ Rodriguez, who tased a police officer so many times he suffered a heart attack.

Image

David Dempsey, whose attacks on police officers included beating them with a flagpole and spraying their faces with pepper spray.

I received an email saying:
Re: VDH: Honest assessment of the Left
Mr. Shattuck- The most important lesson I learned from COVID is that everything has spiritual underpinnings- our culture has ignored that reality for far too long and we all payed a heavy price for not realizing such as the likes of Fauci, Zuckerburg along with many other greedy and power-hungry people did many inexcusable things.
Once again, please list Biden's 10 greatest achievements please.
Thanks,
I replied to the email saying:
Thank you, ____.
It's actually flattering to me that you bother to ask me your question.
I will shorthand you a bit, first by the link FACT SHEET: The Biden-Harris Administration Record | The American Presidency Project. I buy into most that is said there.
On the failure side, Biden did extremely poorly in how he handled the matter of immigration and the border.
I have read the Victor Davis Hanson article. The article in no way dissuades me from how I am going after "the January 6th lawbreaker 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump" in my blog The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump.
I am striving to get better public discussion and debate going in various quarters. See, e.g., The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: Sen. Katie Britt versus Prof. Joyce Vance. Would you care to join me in these efforts?
Sincerely,
Rob Shattuck

The January 6th lawbreaker President, day 2

Notes of day 2 of the of the presidency of the January 6th lawbreaker 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.

Yesterday, the chairman of an Alabama Democratic party county organization posted on Facebook:"You can not engage the enemies of our Republic from a gated social media platform!!! We must be seen and heard in our actual communities, because follows and shares are truly meaningless."
I commented back: "I for one am not engaging the enemies of our Republic from a gated social media platform and am seeking to be seen and heard in our actual communities. The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: The January 6th lawbreaker President, day 1"

David Carpenter, Circuit Court Judge, State of Alabama, 10th Judicial Circuit, Jefferson County, Criminal Court, posted on Facebook last night
Shortly after his followers attacked the Capitol on January 6th Trump called it "a heinous attack" on the republic and said he expected those involved to be prosecuted.
"The demonstrators who infiltrated the Capitol have defiled the seat of American democracy. To those who engaged in the acts of violence and destruction, you do not represent our country. And to those who broke the law, you will pay."
I posted a comment that tagged my Facebook lawyer friends and that asked, "Will or will not Alabama lawyers act against the January 6th lawbreaker 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump? The Final Battle against Donald J. Trump: The January 6th lawbreaker President, day 1"
