My belief is that the country is engulfed by the charges of the two sides that the other side is the guilty party as regards weaponization of the Department of Justice and the FBI and that, if the matter were to be fulsomely debated in person by representatives of the two sides, the anti-Trump side would win the debate.
My object has been to bring about such a debate in Alabama.
All my emails seeking to bring about such debate have been ignored by the Alabama State Bar.
I threw Nicole Parker into the mix to entice the Alabama State Bar to peer out of its foxhole.
I would like to suggest this: Use Nicole Parker for launching a broadside against the Trump side in the form of a "reply to all" email coming from you. The email would start in the tenor of "I have been receiving these emails from Rob Shattuck and have been in agreement with their implied thrust. I have not previously replied to the emails, but seeing the pronouncements of former FBI agent Nicole Parker in the most recent email has triggered me to reply. So here it goes."

The all-or-nothing mindset regarding ICE serves nothing, where one side supports it fully no matter what and the other seeks to eliminate it completely. It would take a total restructuring of DHS and the mandate by its original law for ICE to be abolished. That’s never going to happen. However, the excessive use and the abuse by ICE in the name of the Trump administration must be eliminated.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) serves a purpose, but when that purpose is intentionally misused, mishandled and mismanaged for a purpose other than its true mission, it is the duty of all citizens to call it out. When it has overstepped its purpose beyond Constitutional grounds, it requires legal curtailment at every level of the justice system, as well as legislative limits placed on it at the federal and state levels.
When it was established in 2003 as a response to the terror attacks of 9/11, ICE had a stated purpose, primarily to reduce or eliminate terrorist threats to the homeland. 1)
It was never intended to be a political force. It was never intended to be a policing body, sent directly to opposition-led states and cities. It was never intended to be the largest peacetime, standing army in the homeland. These overstep the bounds of its mission and its constitutional authority.
When used proportionately, per the mission and scope outlined in the law, ICE proved effective without terrorizing cities and states, without masked agents, without raids on courthouses, schools, churches and workplaces. Deportations were carried out without abusing due process and without sending undocumented people to prisons in third countries.
In the 22 years since the establishment of ICE (2003 thru 2024), there were over 6.4 million deportations and over 8.5 million voluntary returns (people leaving the country voluntarily.)2) These were all done without abusive tactics and without political retribution from a sitting president.
While this level of ICE abuse is unlawful and unconstitutional, so is the cooperation with it. This is not ICE in its normal stated operations, but this level of abuse.
With the following abuses seen so far this year, it is recommended that local and state agencies determine beforehand their level of cooperation, to set limits on the scope and tactics to be used, to seek legal counsel if necessary and then explain clearly these instructions to your officers and ICE agents working within the state. Stating that “this is a line we will not cross and these are actions we will not allow.” will create understanding and determine legal cooperation.
Please note that these ICE officers also swear an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. It is on us, as citizens and elected officials, to assure that their orders are legal and align with the Constitution.
Those of us who swore an oath to the Constitution must keep it.
Documented abuses and illegal actions by ICE
· Unreasonable Search and Seizure.
o The 4th Amendment reads
o The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
· Wrongful detention of US citizens and legal residents per the 5th Amendment
· Lack of due process per the 5th Amendment
o The 5th Amendment reads as follows
o No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
· Excessive force.
o Against detainees and citizen observers
· Enforcement tactics
o Raids on courthouses, often while asylum seekers are following the law.
o Raids on workplaces and private property without warrants signed by a judge against specific individuals.
o Raids of schools, hospitals, and churches. For decades, these “safe zones” were respected by agents, but now, the trauma caused by these raids affects citizens, hospital staff and children, as well as undocumented immigrants.
o Racial profiling, even detaining and threatening Native Americans with deportation.
o Agents not adequately identifying themselves. There have been documented instances of rogue, masked criminals in cosplay “uniforms” kidnapping people off the street, with no way for people to know if they are legitimate officers or not.
· Inhumane conditions at detention centers in the US
· Unlawful imprisonment in third countries, which can be characterized as cruel and unusual punishment, with no recourse.
These actions must be curtailed by sworn state and local officers, with proper guidance from their command. Otherwise, it’s not just “illegals” that suffer; it is the citizenry who suffer first, and morally, those who aid this unconstitutional and illegal abuse.

I have previously introduced myself to this group as a former Republican who voted for Trump in 2016, who quickly turned 100% against him, and who now identifies himself as an independent.
I believe the 2026 midterm elections will ultimately be a national referendum on whether the next Congress should or should not impeach Trump, each Congressional candidate should express their position on that, and voters should cast their votes accordingly.
