From the article CNBC reporter: Trump’s tariffs moves ‘absolutely insane’
CNBC reporter Steve Liesman blasted President Trump over his trade policies and broader economic strategy in the wake of a struggling stock market this week. What does the Alabama business community think about Trump's tariffs moves?
“I’m going to say this at the risk of my job, but what President Trump is doing is insane,” Liesman, CNBC’s senior economics reporter, said during a segment on the cable channel Tuesday. “And now he’s saying he’s putting 50 percent tariffs on Canada unless they agree to become the 51st state. That is insane. There’s just no other way of describing it.”

To Alabama lawyers:
Please read the Los Angeles County Bar Association Official Statement at LACBA Condemns Recent Attacks on the Rule of Law, Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession - LACBA News, which says in part the following:
In recent weeks, there have been troubling reports of high-level politicians impugning and threatening to impeach judges whose rulings they do not like and questioning the legitimacy and binding effect of adverse judicial rulings. A few courts have found that the administration has failed to comply with their rulings. In a further escalation, President Donald Trump recently stripped the security clearance of two law firms, Covington Burling and Perkins Coie, and individual attorneys who have sued or taken positions adverse to the current administration or its political party, sought to limit the access of certain attorneys to government buildings and ordered the attorney general and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to review the DEI practices of “large, influential, or industry-leading law firms.” And, finally, an alarming number of employees of the executive branch, including many attorneys, have resigned to protest official directives which are contrary to their oaths to administer the law and perform their duties without favor or political influence.See also https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/5189431-perkins-coie-sues-trump-security-clearances/

If so, please pass their names on to me so I can refer them to Attorney General Bondi to argue to her about how Trump is destroying the rule of law and Attorney General Bondi should resign in protest.

Subject: Alabama lawyer Barry Marks has spoken up publicly against Trump
To Alabama lawyers:
Fellow Alabama lawyer Barry Marks has posted on his Facebook this:
Today, Donald Trump made it entirely clear in his address to the DOJ that he wants to use our government to pursue a personal vendetta against those who investigated and prosecuted him for crimes, both simple felonies and crimes against this nation.Thank you for your attention to this.
He admitted to grounds for his impeachment and incarceration.
Public support for this would be dictator is already crumbling. Is inept management is actually nothing more (or less) than the result of his focus being entirely on increasing his own power.
The far too many Americans who listened to his promises and embraced the carefully chosen conservative programs, he outlined are beginning to recognize that they were mutually inconsistent, and that, as he did not actually embrace the audiology or give it even a moment’s fault, he had no responsible way to downsize government, control spending, push our allies to be self-sufficient and less reliant on the United States, carefully gauge the practical value of foreign aid, get control of immigration through a rational and fair policy that benefits this country, while maintaining our principles, and looks to “America first“ in foreign and military policy.
As to the last of these, he cannot at once protect his personal ally Putin and punish Zelensky for refusing to be his toady and put the best interests of America first. While some in Congress who have supported him look at the balance sheet in wanting to limit support for Ukraine, no conservative, no Republican, and no American patriot can possibly ignore the damage that will be done if we do not support Ukraine to the fullest extent possible.
Sen. Mark Kelly’s recent Facebook comments articulate this beautifully.
Russia, whether as part of the Soviet Union or on its own, is an enemy of the United States.
Why should we call Russia an enemy? Because in its history, Russia has always ignored individual rights and freedoms in favor of its aristocracy.
When other countries had revolutions, the power of the aristocracy were limited, either immediately or through the efforts of the successor governments. Russia’s revolution replaced its ruling class with an autocracy that had even less interest in protecting the rights of the individual. Ask the 3.9 million Ukrainians starved to death by Stalin.
Protection of the individual and the rights of each of us to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is what America is all about and what has made us great.
Russia’s desire for world domination is inextricably linked to its commitment to serving only the needs of its ruling class, currently Putin and the oligarchs.
It is entirely true that the efforts of a succession of American presidents broke apart the Soviet Union and put NATO in a position to surround Russia and neutralize its threat, despite its nuclear arsenal. This certainly played into Mr. Putin’s motivation for invading Ukraine. It was not a justification.
Mr. Trump is doing all he can to reverse 50 years of progress in this regard. We might place some of the blame on Mr. Obama for allowing Russia into the Crimea and on others for thinking the Cold War over, but the greatest danger to the United States of America is from a president only interested in his own power, and willing to accept as an ally anyone who can benefit him, without regard to the damage he does to our nation.
To abandon Ukraine is to turn our backs on what makes America great: our respect for democracy and the rights of the individual.
To abandon our allies in favor of Russia is treason. Period.
TRUMP SUPPORTERS:
Stop and ask what he promised and what he is delivering:
He is throwing you bones like “Gulf of America” “Take back the canal” “Annex Canada and Greenland” and attacking (with lies and unsupported assertions) common targets like the liberal media - because he has no respect for any of his constituents.
He is tanking our economy and jeopardizing our healthcare system.
He is not even trying to downsize government in a responsible manner, but cutting fat and meat (bone) alike through his appointed surrogate, who has no interest in what will work for this country in the long run. Of course he is leaving it to Musk; he does not care to be bothered about the details or how reducing costs is accomplished.
He embraces our enemy and weakens our allies. It is time to recognize that, whatever may be said about his promises, good or bad, Donald Trump is not the man we want running our government or anywhere near power. He is simply a bad man who knew how to say the right things.

The January 6th lawbreaker President, day 50
![]() |
March 10, 2025 Dear Mr. Shattuck, Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. I always appreciate hearing from Alabamians. Ending the conflict is of the upmost importance for America’s vital strategic interests, the security of our homeland, and the defense of liberty and the rule of law. My top priority is to ensure American soldiers never have to be deployed on Ukrainian soil and that this invasion does not advance beyond Ukraine’s borders into the sovereign territory of any NATO member, a scenario which could trigger a global conflict between nuclear powers. We must continue to bolster our own defense readiness and guarantee our own munition stockpiles are robust to deter aggression from hostile actors. As a nation, we must strengthen and modernize our own capabilities to ensure our men and women in uniform remain the best equipped, resourced, and trained in the world. As global powers seek to put an end to this war, one thing is apparent: Vladimir Putin only recognizes strength. He continually took advantage of American weakness by invading Ukraine both during the Biden Administration and the Obama Administration, confirming what I have always believed—strength deters war, while weakness invites it. President Trump is committed to fostering sustainable peace across the globe, including in Eastern Europe. His recent conversations with both heads of state in this conflict are proof of his commitment to ending this war. The American people voted for this conflict to end, before more lives are lost. Please know that I will continue to monitor this national security threat and its implications for our families, our communities, our allies, the region, and the world. Thank you again for contacting me. Do not ever hesitate to reach out if I can be of assistance.
Sincerely, |
I think the AL Trump resistance should press for AL Cong'l delegation to express strong public support for this development: "Ukraine agrees to proposal for ceasefire with Russia as US restores aid and intel sharing." https://t.co/WK1p06cPdX#alpolitics https://t.co/7C1hDP7ZpX

To Alabama TV stations:
I just now submitted the below email to Senators Tuberville and Britt and am in the process of submitting it to Representative Palmer.
The email asks the question of why does Trump favor Putin and Russia over Ukraine and sets forth my theory of why Trump favors Putin and Russia over Ukraine.
I can only wish for your TV stations to try to ask Senators Tuberville and Britt and Representative Palmer what their theory is for why Trump favors Putin and Russia over Ukraine.
Thank you very much.

A Facebook dm exchange re emailing— Rob Shattuck (@RobShattuckAL06) March 8, 2025
My current passion in the Alabama Trump resistance is to try to develop a tactic of organized emailing. Do you think organized emailing as part of the Alabama Trump resistance would have effect? https://t.co/Pjc6UK7lAX#alpolitics
Me: Your most recent post on Facebook got a lot of reaction. I am struggling with email to budge people. Do you have any suggestions?
Other person: I’m sorry I really don’t. I don’t post very often anymore so maybe that’s why? Or maybe I just tapped into something we were all feeling. These are such dark crazy times. There’s so much anxiety out there. Of course not in the bubble where they are high on their own supply.
Me: While I get about zero response to my emails, I send them in the belief that they achieve a momentary registering of something in the heads of the recipients that is desirable.
Other person: We all must do what we can. I admire you.
Me: Thank you, ____. I will let you know if I see effects.
