At our dinner table
The following items were brought up for discussion at our Christmas Eve dinner table and at our Christmas Day dinner table:
1. I have called Trump's ICE actions as a "campaign of terror" against illegal immigrants. Is that a fair characterization? If Trump's ICE actions are a "campaign of terror" against illegal immigrants, do you support what Trump is doing? Or are you against what he is doing?
2. As regards politicians, does character matter? If you think character matters, what is your view of Trump's character, and how does it affect how you will vote in the mid-terms.
3. Does the United States have much more gun violence than other countries? If the answer is yes, what do you think should be done to reduce gun violence in the United States?
4. How much do you think Trump is (and has been) motivated by gaining power, having power, increasing his power, and showing off to the country and the world his power, without regard to the good or bad consequences? If politicians generally desire gaining and exercising power, how do you compare how well institutions, the Constitution, rule of law and separation of powers in the United States effectively limit politicians in the amount of power they are able to gain and exercise, compared to how well the same are working to limit how much power Trump is gaining and exercising? Is there a very dangerous situation with regard to Trump in this matter of power?
