America's 250th birthday - Who cares?

At our dinner table
The following items were brought up for discussion at our Christmas Eve dinner table and at our Christmas Day dinner table:
1. I have called Trump's ICE actions as a "campaign of terror" against illegal immigrants. Is that a fair characterization? If Trump's ICE actions are a "campaign of terror" against illegal immigrants, do you support what Trump is doing? Or are you against what he is doing? (Previously someone I know personally said she was 110% in favor of what Trump is doing, giving this explanation: "I have been traveling for 25 years throughout Mexico for business. I have never been to tourist areas but business areas throughout country. The action of cartels is so much worse than even five years ago. The cartels have members on US side that are in constant contact with members on Mexican side. The Mexican police and many border agents are either paid off or scared to get involved so you have no one to turn to when confronted with an incident like with my employees.")
2. As regards politicians, does character matter? If you think character matters, what is your view of Trump's character, and how does it affect how you will vote in the mid-terms?
3. Does the United States have much more gun violence than other countries? If the answer is yes, what do you think should be done to reduce gun violence in the United States? (I sent to one of the persons at the dinner table the emails I have sent these past two weeks to Alabama university presidents and to Alabama churches that are posted at Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: Targeted emailing re stricter gun laws).
4. How much do you think Trump is (and has been) motivated by gaining power, having power, increasing his power, and showing off to the country and the world his power, without regard to the good or bad consequences? If politicians generally desire gaining and exercising power, how do you compare how well institutions, the Constitution, rule of law and separation of powers in the United States effectively limit politicians in the amount of power they are able to gain and exercise, compared to how well the same are working to limit how much power Trump is gaining and exercising? Is there a very dangerous situation with regard to Trump in this matter of power?

JUNE 2026
On Facebook I posted the following:
America's momentous 250th birthday is two weeks away.
What commemorative statements would you like to hear from Alabama's leaders and influencers in connection with July 4, 2026? Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: America's 250th birthday - Who cares?

The Alabama gubernatorial candidacy of Doug Jones

I am an independent.

I wish for Doug Jones to pitch his candidacy for Alabama governor to independents who are increasingly opposed to Trump.

Tommy Tuberville is a Trump knock off who has, as United States Senator, enabled and cheered on the wrecking of America that Trump has been doing. I wish for Doug Jones to attack Tommy Tuberville on that ground.

Emailing for Doug
I have been a longtime advocate of organized, targeted emailing as a campaign tool. I will importune the Doug Jones campaign to organize an emailing component ("Emailers for Doug") as part of its election efforts. We'll see.

Happy No Kings 3, Anita!
This being the day people are in the streets for No Kings 3, I harken back to last year's June 14th No Kings and my blog entry Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: What to do after yesterday, which pleads for organized emailing after the day of the protest in order to keep up and build on what the protest sought to achieve.
The same applies for today's No Kings 3 and for organized emailing after today.
As I have indicated, many people on Facebook have liked the idea of organized emailing, but none have said they are willing to send emails and no emailing has been done.
In my extensive importuning of people outside of Facebook, I have been met with a lot of silence and have not been able to get even discussion of the idea.
I will continue my efforts for organized emailing.
As for Doug Jones, I would suggest, and I would like, for someone besides myself to start and be the administrator of a Facebook group (maybe called "Alabamians emailing for Doug" analogous to my own Alabamians emailing against Trump | Facebook) and go from there. If someone else is willing to undertake that, I will be pleased to join in and try to help.
Sincerely,
Rob

Subject: Suggestions for North Alabama Democratic candidates coming on Dale Jackson's show
Dear Limestone County Democrats:
Your May 28th Facebook post that makes announcement of Dale Jackson broadcasting his radio show live on June 5th from the new Limestone County Democratic Headquarters says:
"North Alabama Democratic Candidates from local, state and federal offices are welcome to come ON AIR between 5am to 12 noon. Let your voice and your campaigns be heard to all Alabamians. Independents and moderate Republicans need to know what we stand for and what we will fight for. Fair Representation, Affordable Housing, Adequate Healthcare that is nearby and MORE."
I laud this being done by the Limestone County Democrats.
Here is my thinking:
I think 2026 election campaigns in Alabama against MAGA Republican candidates should use those candidates' love of and obeisance to all things Trump against those candidates.
For example, Doug Jones should attack Coach Tuberville about whether Coach Tuberville would use the Alabama governorship to profit himself, his family and his friends the way Trump is using the United States Presidency to profit Trump and Trump's family and friends, and whether Coach Tuberville would turn the Alabama Attorney General's office into his private law firm the way Trump has turned the United States Department of Justice into Trump's private law firm.
The Republican candidate for Alabama Attorney General should be attacked about whether he or she can recognize Trump's corruption and can recognize Trump's turning of DOJ into Trump's private law firm and about whether he or she would be able to recognize if, say, Coach Tuberville becomes Alabama Governor and practices Trump style corruption and be able to go after such corruption, and he or she will not allow the Alabama Attorney General office to become Coach Tuberville's private law firm.
The foregoing type of attack against Coach Tuberville and the Republican candidate for Alabama Attorney General that uses the candidate's love of and obeisance to all things Trump can, I think, be adapted to other state office elections besides for Alabama Governor and Alabama Attorney General.
At the federal level, in the Alabama Congressional elections, the MAGA Republican candidates should be attacked about whether the candidate's love of and obeisance to all things Trump means they will say nothing and will do nothing against Trump's corruption and Trump's power-crazed pursuit of more power and self-glorification.
I am purveying the foregoing thoughts via the social media, including via persons who are copied on this email. Perhaps such thoughts will be purveyed by means of call ins to radio shows that have candidates on the air, such as Dale Jackson is doing.
I hope the June 5th radio show is very helpful to North Alabama Democratic Candidates.
Sincerely,
Rob Shattuck

Subject: Bruce Pearl's special forum and "Let Alabama debate Trump"
Dear College Republican Federation of Alabama:
This email is prompted by the special forum you hosted at the University of Alabama this past Thursday with Auburn Coach Bruce Pearl, discussing the relationship between the United States and Israel.
In your Facebook post, you expressed pride in CRFA Chairman Riley McArdle and the University of Alabama College Republicans "for leading real dialogue on issues that matter."
I think the issue that matters most in the United States today is the issue of Donald Trump, and that special forums should be held at all of Alabama's universities to discuss Donald Trump. I am making efforts to promote the same per "Let Alabama debate Trump" as set out at Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: Let Alabama debate Trump.
I have previously emailed University of Alabama President Mohler and the staff of The Crimson White about this. To advance the same at the University of Alabama from here, I am copying on this email the University of Alabama College Democrats, the University of Alabama College Republicans and the Alabama College Democrats.
Further, Coach Pearl being from Auburn, I am further availing of this email to urge particularly a special forum at Auburn to discuss Donald Trump, by copying on this email Auburn President Christopher Roberts, the College Democrats at Auburn University, and the Auburn University College Republicans, as well as members of The Auburn Plainsman staff, the Lee County Democrats and others whom I have previously emailed growing out of Auburn's termination of certain employees for offensive posts after Charlie Kirk's death. See Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: Alabama debates what Eric Trump says about his father
Finally, Coach Pearl might be an excellent participant in one or more special forums discussing Donald Trump. I cannot find an email address for him, and I am copying Auburn Athletics Director John Cohen on this email, so that he might be so kind as to forward this email to Coach Pearl.
Thank you for your attention to this.
