Dear Mr. Mardis III,
I despair of our national politics and governance.
I think the minority extremes on the two sides control our politics and political discourse and the big majority in the middle (especially independents) is sidelined.
I am advocating for flooding the 2026 elections with Independent candidates. Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: Flood the zone with Independent candidates in 2026.
I hope you are able to do well.

Subject: How fearful of Trump is the Alabama business community?
To Alabama chambers of commerce and others:
The news story Trump demands 'highly conflicted' Intel CEO resign over China ties prompts me to ask you about how fearful the Alabama business community is of Trump.
As I have previously tried to say to you, my opinion is that Trump's overriding motivation at this juncture in his life is to be, and show to the world that he is, the most powerful and consequential President (for good or bad) in the history of the United States.
For that, I believe Trump is hellbent on mowing down any and all checks and restraints that impede his gaining ever more power in his relentless quest to be the most powerful and consequential United States President ever.
Trump has been incredibly successful towards that end during the past nine months.
A chief tool Trump wields is that of instilling fear in anyone who opposes him or speaks against him.
Such fear is infectious and builds on itself, in that, as some parties succumb to Trump out of fear, other parties are more likely to succumb and do succumb to Trump, and that further grows the fear of Trump.
The fear includes fear of being shunned by other parties with whom one has business (or other) relationships, because one perceives the other parties as being fearful of being associated with someone who speaks against Trump, and for that reason one chooses not to speak against Trump.
Please tell me how pervasive you think fear of Trump is in the Alabama business community as to result in the foregoing phenomenon of people in the community being unwilling to speak up against Trump. (I appreciate that your answering this inquiry is a lose/lose proposition that, if you say people are not fearful, that may encourage people not to be fearful and to speak up, and, if you say people are fearful, that may cause people to decide not to be ruled by fear and to speak up against Trump.)
Thank you.

Dear Alabama chambers of commerce and others:
Does the Alabama business community say, "Fire any employee who speaks ill of Charlie Kirk."?
Or, does the Alabama business community say, "Let us and our employees take heed of what Charlie Kirk says"? To wit, Charlie Kirk says:
“When people stop talking, really bad stuff starts… when you stop having a human connection with someone you disagree with, it becomes a lot easier to want to commit violence against that group. What we as a culture have to get back to is being able to have reasonable disagreement where violence is not an option.” DR. CHLOE CARMICHAEL: Charlie Kirk’s Final Warning: Don’t Stop Talking – IJR
Or third choice, say and do nothing.
So, Alabama business community, whatcha gonna do in your sphere of influence over your employees?
Thank you.

Subject: Lawfare for Dummies, Monetary Edition
Dear Alabama State Bar Executive Council
This email is in follow up to previous emails I have sent to you that are posted at Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: The condition of the Department of Justice and its FBI and other emails I have sent to President Helmsing that are posted at Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: Alabama collaborator lawyers and Alabama resister lawyers.
This email sends you a gift copy of yesterday's The Wall Street Journal editorial "Lawfare for Dummies, Monetary Edition: DOJ’s criminal subpoena to Fed Chair Jerome Powell is a self-defeating fiasco."
The editorial begins by saying: "In the annals of political lawfare there’s dumb, and then there’s the criminal subpoena federal prosecutors delivered Friday to Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. President Trump would do himself and the country a big favor by firing those responsible for this fiasco."
The gift copy of the full editorial is at https://www.wsj.com/opinion/jerome-powell-subpoena-federal-reserve-department-of-justice-donald-trump-bill-pulte-jeanine-pirro-b6913599?st=SE3eGj&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink.
As you know, I believe that Trump is destroying the rule of law in America and that the Alabama State Bar should speak to Alabamians about that.
Further, the rule of law is critically important to the American economy and business, and the Powell matter is a further attack by Trump on the rule of law that should be of special interest to the Alabama business community. Accordingly, I am copying on this email Alabama chambers of commerce.
Thank you for your attention to this email.

Dear Alabama State Bar Executive Council:
Jack Smith's scheduled public testimony today before the House Judiciary Committee about his investigations of President Trump during the Biden administration (https://thehill.com/video-clips/5700476-watch-live-jack-smith-testimony-donald-trump-investigations-house/) prompts me to send this email to you, following my January 13th email that sent you a gift copy of The Wall Street Journal editorial "Lawfare for Dummies, Monetary Edition: DOJ’s criminal subpoena to Fed Chair Jerome Powell is a self-defeating fiasco."
As I have said before, I believe that Trump is destroying the rule of law in America and that the Alabama State Bar should speak to Alabamians about that. Such speaking could start with speaking about Jack Smith's testimony today.
Further, as I have said before, the rule of law is critically important to the American economy and business, and the Alabama business community should also have an interest in Jack Smith's testimony. Accordingly, as with my January 13th email, I am copying on this email Alabama chambers of commerce.

Dear Ms. James and Mr. Letson:
This email is prompted by your being lawyers who are on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, respectively, of the Huntsville/Madison Chamber and the Chamber having a luncheon this Friday with Senator Katie Britt in attendance.
I am a retired lawyer in Birmingham who has been importuning the Alabama State Bar to speak up publicly about Donald Trump and the rule of law. See, e.g., Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: The condition of the Department of Justice and its FBI.
Also, I have been asking Alabama chambers of commerce the question: How fearful of Trump is the Alabama business community? See Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: How fearful of Trump is the Alabama business community?
I have received no responses to my emails.
If you would care to react to anything I say in the foregoing links, that would be much appreciated.

Sent: Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 06:26:22 PM CDTbject: Maurice Mercer, Trussville Chamber of Commerce, and Rule of Law
Dear Trussville Chamber of Commerce:
On his Facebook, Alabama 6th Congressional district candidate Maurice Mercer posted about his attending Coffee & Contacts at the Trussville Chamber of Commerce yesterday.
Candidate Mercer expressed:
"it’s important to me to hear not only from residents, but also from the business community. Small businesses create jobs, drive innovation, and help shape the future of our communities. I want to listen and understand their ideas, opportunities, and wins to ensure I know the issues affecting our district and local economy."
I am trying to elevate the Rule of Law in the Alabama 2026 general elections as indicated at Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: Rule of Law in Alabama 2026 general elections.
I think the Rule of Law is, or should be, extremely important to the Alabama business community. Further I think Donald Trump is doing great damage to the Rule of Law in ways that are harmful to the business community, and Trump needs to be stopped.
In the Rule of Trump (as opposed to the Rule of Law), the corruption of Trump is becoming monumental in exchanges that go on between Trump and other parties, including foreign parties, in which Trump and the Trump family receive financial benefits from the other parties, and the other parties receive governmental actions from Trump that the other parties desire.
This Rule of Trump extends to other parties not opposing anything Trump does, out of fear of Trump's power to punish the other parties, including by using the Department of Justice against the other parties.
I am in the 6th Congressional district, and I desire to agitate the six Congressional candidates (Maurice Mercer, Keith Pilkington, Case Dixon, Ashtyn Kennedy, Gary Palmer and Jacob Bouma-Sims) about the Rule of Law and Trump corruption, as well as agitate local chambers of commerce and other local parties.
Accordingly, I am copying the six Congressional candidates on this email.
Sincerely,
Rob Shattuck

From Facebook
The weather has cooled down so please join us downtown tomorrow, Wednesday, August 6, at noon to hold Senator Britt accountable for her vote on the "Big Ugly Billionaire Bill" and her support of the cruelty it inflicts on the people.
We want to protect rural hospitals, not build detention centers!
We want due process, not secret police!
We want health care and nutrition supplementation, not mitarization!

Dear United Democratic Volunteers of Alabama:
Your website says UDVAL "is a grassroots network empowering volunteers to support Democratic initiatives across the state. Founded in 2021 as UDCAL (United Democratic Clubs of Alabama) and then changed to UDVAL in late 2024, we leverage our network of volunteers to fill in the gaps of other Democratic organizations instead of reinventing the wheel. We are not a political action committee (PAC) nor a non-profit or for-profit organization. We have no funds, no bank account, no mailing address, and no paid staff. We are all volunteers helping other volunteers." About — UDVAL
I am an Independent. In my political activities, I too have no funds, no bank account and no paid staff.
As an Independent I am trying to promote organized, targeted emailing to grow Alabama public opinion against Trump, most recently in connection with the Aug. 2nd Rage Against The Regime events. Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: Rage Against The Regime challenge.
I would like to discuss with you whether organized, targeted emailing by your volunteers could be developed to advance your organizational objectives.
Please call me (205-967-5586) if you see potential here.
Thank you.

I am in Gary Palmer's district.
Will Gary Palmer have a town hall while he is back in Birmingham this month, at which his constituents can boo him for his defending Trump policies as happened this week to Rep. Mike Flood in Nebraska? Mike Flood booed by Nebraska constituents after defending Trump
I doubt Gary Palmer will have a town hall this month.

Thank you to the group that turned out today to continue to hold Katie Britt accountable for her support of the Big Ugly Billionaire Bill. We got lots of thumbs up, honks and some thank you's from passers by. It's amazing how many folks don't even know that Senator Britt has an office at the Vance building that she rarely, if ever, visits.
For the near future, we will keep showing up every Wednesday from noon - 1pm. Please consider joining us next week! Corner of 1800 5th Ave N, Vance Federal Building. We're serious but fun!

Suzanne Baker is posting on Facebook that, "This week is special as we will be joined by other Indivisible groups in Alabama who will be protesting at Senator Britt's office in their cities."
I am all for protests of Katie Britt outside her offices in Alabama.
As to protesting Katie Britt by means of Facebook posts, I think Facebook posting has limited reach to similarly minded persons, and, as such, Facebook posting does not reach persons who are undecided or otherwise open to persuasion. and does not show fight to the other side.
I have been advocating for organized, targeted emailing to protest Katie Britt, as a way that can overcome the limitations of Facebook posting for protesting Katie Britt. Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: Targeting Katie Britt.
If this makes any sense to your group, I would love to discuss the same with your group. My telephone number is 205-967-5586.

Subject: Practicing non-cooperation at scale
Dear Indivisible Mobile:
This email is prompted by your Facebook post announcing a training session "to build the necessary strength to practice non-cooperation at scale"
Your Facebook post says:
Non-cooperation is a key component of nonviolent resistance, and was a hallmark of the Civil Rights movement, as well as having been a successful strategy for striking back against authoritarian regimes all over the world and throughout history. Non-cooperation is best aimed at the pillars that in good times support a healthy society, but in bad times can be forced to serve an authoritarian regime. The main pillars are Business, Labor, Faith Organizations, Educational Institutions, the Civil Service, the Military and Police. (I would include the Media and Health Care, and you can probably think of some others.)
I think targeted emailing I have been doing in Alabama directed at the legal profession, chambers of commerce, local TV stations, educational institutions, churches, and public health constituents has potential for being strong "non-cooperation."
Some of my targeted emailing is set out at Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: Rage Against The Regime challenge.
I have been soliciting Alabama Trump resistance groups and others to join in to do ORGANIZED, targeted emailing that I think could make for "non-cooperation at scale." Citizens Acting to End the Trump Presidency: Continuation of appeal for organized, targeted emailing
Please call me if you see potential here for discussion.
Thank you.
Sincerely,

Subject: Emailing; APT; Gov. Ivey; Yaffee
To Alabama Trump resisters:
In the Alabama Public Television controversy, much public reaction appears to have influenced Gov. Ivey to urge that a public survey be taken before APT disaffiliates from the Public Broadcasting System (Alabama Gov. Ivey wants a public survey before Alabama Public TV-PBS disaffiliation vote), and the upshot of the public reaction is that the APT Commission voted today to continue paying the contract with PBS that runs until July and to create a committee to explore the future direction of APT (After backlash, Alabama Public Television will keep paying for PBS).
Emails from the public appear to have been a significant component of the public reaction that influenced Gov. Ivey and the APT Commission.
The APT controversy will be ongoing. Gov. Ivey said she was “sympathetic to the concerns that may be prompting this proposal [to sever ties with PBS]" and the Republican right can be expected to do a lot of future messaging against PBS (see Yaffee op-ed: Calling 'BS' that Alabama needs PBS - Yellowhammer News).
I urge Alabama Trump resisters to think about the potency that emailing by the public has had in the APT controversy, how such emailing might be sustained going forward as regards APT, and how such emailing by the public might be developed going forward against Trump in Alabama.
Thank you.
